Course Selection for the Winter Term 2026

Voting Period and Seat Allocation

Registration will be open from September 21 to September 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. The time of registration has no bearing on placement. Please note that you may select only two research modules in two different blocks. Placements are assigned purely by algorithm; the semester you are currently in does not play a role in this process.

Notes on Long-Term Specializations

If you choose a long-term course, you no longer need to select research modules. You can only begin a long-term course in the summer term. Long-term courses run for the entire semester (not in blocks) and cannot be combined with research modules in terms of scheduling. A long-term course comprises 23 credit points and covers an entire Division—it is therefore equivalent to two research modules and one project module.

Fieldwork

The major fieldwork courses, which span two semesters, represent a special, interdisciplinary form of research modules. There are four different excursions to choose from, all of which take place during the summer term:

• Marine Biology on Heligoland. The zoological-botanical field practicum on Heligoland will take place from July 21–29, 2027.
• Marine Biology in Giglio. Alternating annually with the Helgoland excursion, the field practicum with a predominantly zoological focus will take place in 2028. 
• Annual Field Course in the Alps. An annual botanical excursion to the Alps is scheduled to take place from August 1–7, 2027.

The corresponding lecture takes place in the preceding winter term. Course selection and assignment of spots occur before the start of the winter term.

Allocation and Module Assignment

The research modules or long-term courses are automatically assigned centrally via Campus+ based on your selection. The participant lists are then sent to the respective institutes, which offer limited capacity. Students’ individual preferences are not disclosed.

Your Binding Acceptance of the Assigned Spot

After you have been notified via Campus+ that a spot has been assigned to you, you must register for the research module in the CAS (Campus Management Portal) by the deadline. If you miss the registration deadline, the spot may be assigned to other students.

Swapping Modules

It is possible to swap modules. To do so, you need a swap partner from another module. Please contact both module coordinators together and discuss the swap directly with them.

Withdrawing from Modules

If you do not wish to or are unable to take a module that has been assigned to you, please notify the respective course provider immediately. It is important not to unnecessarily block spots, as this prevents interested students from taking them.

Additional Courses

If you have already completed all required modules as part of your degree program but would like to take an additional module as an additional achievement, do not select this module via Campus+; instead, contact the respective course provider directly. To do so, please fill out the application for admission to a course or examination in an additional course. 

When am I allowed to select only ONE F2 module?

If you are in the prior master's transfer account or have already completed five research modules, you may select ONLY ONE module via the Campus+ portal. However, you may also apply directly to the course providers for additional modules AFTER the available spots have been announced. To qualify for the prior master's transfer account, you must have earned 120 credit points and submitted the prior master's transfer account registration form.

  You may substitute one of the two interdisciplinary seminars with a course at the Language Center/HOC/FORUM.
